Foods to Avoid
If you are planning to become pregnant or you are with child, there are some foods that you should avoid due to potential problems with pregnancy. Here are foods that you should stay away from:
- any foods/drinks that contain a lot of Vitamin A such as liver and liver products (liver paté), this also includes Vitamin supplements with Vitamin A in it
- foods having the possibility of containing mercury, e.g. Shark, Marlin, Swordfish, and even Tuna.
- any foods that could contain high levels of listeria. Listeria is bacteria (germs) although this bacterium does not usually cause issues with pregnant women, you are more likely to get infected with listeria, and this can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, or infections after the baby is born. Here is a list of foods to avoid:
- Patés, this includes veg based Patés
- Milk that is no pasteurised. Goat milk is often sold unpasteurised and so are its by products
- Meats, and egg that are not fully cooked or even raw and have not been preheated before eating. If eggs are consumed then both the yellow and white parts must be in a solid state. Mayonasie usually contains raw eggs and certain types of mousses
- Avoid shellfish, shushi and oysters Cheeses are that are mould-ripened, e.g. brie, and blue vein cheeses
- Caffeine, here are foods that have caffeine:
- a cup of coffee contains about 100mga
- cup of tea contains about 75mg
- each gram of chocolate contains about 50mg; milk chocolate has half the amount of caffeine One can 330ml of cola, and other energy drinks contain high amounts of caffeine
