Baby Names

Naming your Baby
You are expecting a baby soon but you don't have a name sorted out yet, what can you do to make sure you arrive at the right decision? How do you go about choosing a name that will last a life time (unless of course its so bad that your child changes it by deed pole when they become an adult). Shakespeare wrote
"What in a name? That which call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet"
(Romeo and Juliet - II, ii, 1-2)
It is true to say that whatever name you choose it does not change who what s/he is or will be. A name is a label you place on someone for life, so choosing one can be a daunting task. People use different reasons different rules when choosing a name. They range from naming their child after it's personality or someone special / someone of significance, to honor them. You may want to choose a name with some cultural meaning or root. Does it need to start with a certain letter? Need to represent a certain nationality?

The Name Search
Once you have decided how you are going to name your child, you can start by jotting down some ideas. Keeping a piece of paper with you for a list for names is always a good idea as you never know where and when you come across a name that you hear or think of you think is just perfect. Pay special attention to the credits to a movie film for some good ideas. You can be very creative and come up with a name that is very creative. Think of how others may take the name - is it easy to pronounce? Lets face it, bullying exists, and you may think about how other children may try to tease your child's name.
